If you know the people who are advertising on your site you could perhaps ask them what their click rate is?

Value is very hard to calculate even from the click rate. You have a successful site so it is probably worth more to advertise on your site than others. Cost of ads do not reflect this. I find that it is more common for people who know me to advertise with me probably because of this.

If it makes you feel uncomfortable, why not give those that do support you some extra recognition, via a post or list in your sidebar? At the moment I have a list of those whose sites I advertised on who provided the most clicks to my site. I plan to alternate this with a list of those who advertised on here as a thank you.

Sue

I totally agree that it is a brilliant program. Really the onus falls on the advertiser to choose wisely - if I choose to advertise on site x for xyz number of EC then it's really MY fault if the clicks don't represent value. So I really can't see too many people complaining on that front, because they really don't have a hoof to stand on ;)

I guess I'm just getting a little uncomfortable about my own increasing rate of advertising (though it has dropped a little), and feeling somewhat guilty that it's not real value for purchaser. Hard to know, because you don't get access to those stats.

Entrecard has its faults for users but I have to applaud the brilliant idea and after all we are getting something for nothing financially at the moment. When Entrecard becomes too expensive in terms of our value of the time it takes up it will lose its appeal, although the plans they have for adding more features may keep the interest going for a while longer yet.

The more people who benefit financially from its offshoots the more free advertising it will get.

It will be interesting to see if Entrecard can survive the inevitable disgruntled back lash that usually follows schemes like this. I imagine negative posts will increase and it's continued popularity will depend on how many bloggers follow this trail - how many wombats turn back into sheep.

I have to confess being a bit of a "wombat" myself (clicks drops and leaves). At the end of the day though, I think it's really creating a false economy. I got great value from an ad I placed here, but you have to think at what point does it really not become "cost" effective (and I say this in relation to my own site as well).

The best "value" ad I placed cost .55 credits per click. If an ad on a site with 3 subscribers costs 100 credits (say) could I expect 181 clicks? I don't think so.

It didn't take long to monetise the entrecard market. Interesting post.

The cost to advertise is going up overall and EC taking a whopping 75% of the cut is absolutely ridiculous. The longer they take to change this, the more established the underground EC black markets will be.
