Tweetathon Tonight – Pass It On

When I received a tweet about a Tweetathon (28th May – 7pm where you live) from Suzie of Abundance Highway I thought it was a perfect way to link my last post Twitter for Beginners with the post I was about to write on making a blog post/event go viral. Instead of this post I am asking that you consider helping Suzie publicize her Tweetathon (and her goal) and to comment here on ways you have successfully made a blog post go viral (or even spread one around just a little bit)

In gratitude for your comment I will follow this up with a post talking about the methods you suggest, with a link to your blog or a blog post of your choosing.

Suzie has a BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) and towards this aim she giving out prizes and holding a Tweetathon tonight. I am going to say no more as you can read all about it on Abundance Highway. (my evil plan to get you to visit her site and take part – should I have admitted that I wonder?)

Tweetathon and Team World Update

The Tweetathon came about in a discussion between Suzie, Liz Strauss and Glenda Watson Hyatt You can read more about this at:

The Prizes

This is one good example of the usefulness of Twitter for bloggers :-)

If you are contributing a comment regarding how to make a blog post go viral and want me to link to one of your blog posts, rather than your blog, then please leave the link in your comment.

Well, I’ve only just started with Twitter so I’m yet to actually put into practise any “viral marketing”. I do have plans to try something along these lines tomorrow though.

I was thinking more of viral blog posts not viral tweets. Posts that have been popular and become known via backlinks, stumbles, diggs etc. Even a meme that has been passed around a lot.

I plan to be there for the tweetathon – I am interesting in seeing how they are done.

Hi Sue. I agree that Suzie’s project is very interesting as it is the first one I’ve seen that requires a participant to also make a twit about it.

I have a writing project, the top 10 emerging influential blogs, and have used Twitter to post updates and send direct messages to contacts inviting them to join. I also made a plea to a few for retweeting once.

It will be interesting to see how Suzie’s contest campaign go with its Twitter requirement. I look forward in learning from it.

Cheers!

Yes I am interested too. I am keen to see Twitter used to enhance blog conversations rather than be separate. This is an example of advertising a blogging event by a twitter event.

Has Twitter shown results for you with regards to your writing project do you think?

The most effective method for creating viral content is to create a massive list resource post. If you aggregate a lot of really useful information for one post, you can get a ton of backlinks.

links from Technoratisteps, or so I thought became something of a nightmare. I thought prizes drove people to your site? Seems I drove them away! What I thought was 3 simple steps became too hard. Just one brave person entered the contest Sue fromSueblimely, who will win a prize of her choice. Then Des being the supportive partner he is , thought he would enter knowing he couldn’t win the prizes. I had gone to bed, Glenda was not around and hadn’t been party to this, Des found trying to follow the

I read that Sueblimely talked about viral links. Can anyone help me to understand with common words how it works? Thanks :?:

Something “viral” in web or marketing terms is something that is widely passed on from person to person.

For example
A blog post that is mentioned on many other blogs.

A youtube video that has a huge number of viewers because they have been told about it via email, in forums or on websites.

A message or link that is passed on a lot between twitter users.

An email that is forwarded on a lot.

That is an interesting concept. I heard the explanation of it but never with simple words.
