Stop Videos Playing Automatically And Prevent Injury By Cat

Burmese Cat Videos

One of my pet annoyances is YouTube and other embedded videos playing automatically in Firefox and Chrome. Pet annoyances in that it disturbs the cat too. Worse still, is when multiple videos play at the same time. I have found solutions to put control back into your hands so that you choose when videos start playing. When I come across something interesting, while browsing, I open new background tabs from links on webpages,  so that I can continue reading the page I am on and go to the link pages later. When those pages contain embedded videos and start playing [...] Continue Reading…

Firefox Collections and Social Networking

Collections are a newly introduced Firefox site feature that allow you to save lists of your favorite add-ons (extensions, toolbars, Greasemonkey scripts) to your Firefox profile. A subscribe option allows you to add the collections of others to your favorites and track when these are updated. These user created collections are ranked by the amount of subscribers they have attracted. The Firefox Collections page allows you to view lists of Editor’s Picks (so far only Firefox Created Collections), Popular Collections, your own and your favorite Collections. The lists are searchable by most popular all time, most popular this week or [...] Continue Reading…

Productivity Tips – Downloads

If, like me, you download themes or templates for future reference or while deciding on a theme for a new blog or planned update, keeping track of them can be difficult. Unless listed as otherwise all of the following are Firefox extensions. For most of the list below I could only point you to the current extension version downloads. This of course may change in the future – so if the extension is out of date for your version of Firefox or no longer exists then do [...] Continue Reading…

Speed Up Your Firefox Browsing

Reading blogs and other websites, participating in Social Networking Sites, doing research, dropping Entrecards can create an overloaded and disorganized Firefox browser. Here are some ways you can avoid frustration, speed up your browsing and be more organized. Keep one lean clean, mean speedy profile free of addin toolbars, sidebars and multiple extensions for quick browsing.. Use a different profile for visiting other sites and social networking. (I would not recommend using this many toolbars at any one time!) To start Firefox in profile view, where you can choose which profile to load and add new ones: Go to Start [...] Continue Reading…

Blogging Toolbox 1-Firefox/Flock

Firefox – is my browser of choice, with Flock a close second. Both allow easy addition of useful extensions and toolbars for blogging. Extensions: Scrapbook Uses – blog editing and research Scrapbook allows you to download pages, complete with images, quickly and simply and then edit them using any html editor/text. I find this extension indispensable and especially useful to view and style xml and java script generated content; which you can’t normally view until you have saved your template or posted your blog. Major Features: Save a web page Save a snippet of a web page by selecting text [...] Continue Reading…
