Sueblimely Still Standing, Better Than I Ever Did

group of people

I have considered blogging here again for a while now. Similar to writing to an old friend, who you have not been in contact with for a long time, I found it hard to know where to start. I decided to stop making excuses. Waiting until I had redesigned my theme was one of the main reasons. I am now putting off procrastinating; that can wait until another day. I could have just written one of my tutorial type posts but that did not seem personal enough; after all, this is a blog, not an instruction manual. I want to [...] Continue Reading…

Advantages of Receiving Blog Comments

When I read about ways to reward those who comment on blogs I always enthusiastically try them out. I see comments as the life blood of a blog, providing a distribution system for so many other aspects of blogging. Their are plenty of blog posts around about the benefits of leaving comments but what of the benefits we gain by receiving them? Benefits of receiving comments: Communication Needs Comments are a concrete way of showing that your blog has readers, particularly interested in your blog, rather than just passing trade. The passing trade do comment too but you can distinguish [...] Continue Reading…

Blogosphere News Sept 27th

Reading Your turn – if you have written or have read something that may interest readers here or come across a new site worth a look at let me know; by leaving a comment here or via my contact page. (The latter may be best if it is your own post so that others do not perceive it as being spammy) I will only publish comments that include links if the links are relevant and useful. (covering myself here in case I get spam!). If you are a regular reader you will know I try to feature posts from some [...] Continue Reading…

Entrecard Encouraging Comments with SezWho

Entrecard has just joined forces with SezWho. “SezWhat?” you may be saying – I will explain what it is later in the post but firstly want to talk about Entrecard itself and why this partnership may be very useful to bloggers. Entrecard has been a great way of bringing visitors to blogs and creating a means for members to get known but it has fallen short in producing significantly extra comments and expanding individual blog’s reader communities. Entrecard has always had higher aims, with goals of bringing not only traffic but also audiences, readership and community participation. I agree with [...] Continue Reading…

PhotoCrank Your Comments

I have recently been trying out PhotoCrank, a kind of annotation/comment system for web images, and have had some fun browsing blogs that have installed this feature. PhotoCrank allows the addition of word bubbles, graphics, comments and tags to any photo on any website. Those who have installed the browser extension can use the feature on any photo of any website.. In addition to the actual cranks, comments can made relating to those cranks. If you add the Photocrank engine to your blog then any reader can use the feature on the images you have enabled for its use. You [...] Continue Reading…

Get More Comments with KeywordLuv

A new WordPress plugin has to be unique and useful for me to write about it. The KeywordLuv plugin by Stephen Cronin of More than Scratch the Surface is just that. It is one of those “I know I have too many plugins, but I must have this one” plugin. What KeywordLuv does is allow for the inclusion of a name and keywords in the title field in the comments form. I see this as being useful to include your blog title alongside your name. Those who are familiar with your blog title but not your nickname can associate the [...] Continue Reading…

50 Timeless Blogging Tips

Words of wisdom from the world’s greatest thinkers are timeless providing advice which is as relevant now as when first spoken. All of these quotes could easily be applied to blogging: Advice for Bloggers They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel. Carl W. Buechner When dealing with people, remember you are not dealing with creatures of logic, but creatures of emotion. Dale Carnegie Speech is power: speech is to persuade, to convert, to compel. It is to bring another out of his bad sense into your good sense. Ralph Waldo Emerson [...] Continue Reading…

Google listened – Blogspot Blogger comment form allows URL link

Hurray – non Blogger users can again provide an auto-linked URL when signing in to comment on blogspot Blogger blogs. It seems that Google does take account of what we have to say. Very wise considering the downturn in comments on Blogger blogs and the number of people talking of leaving for a different blogging platform. Here is the announcement at Google’s Blogger Buzz – BlogYou Blog, We Listen Thanks Colin of Adelaide Green Porridge Cafe for alerting me to this change. At this stage not all Blogger blogs have been changed to this system.   Continue Reading…

Using your own Blog URL as your OpenID

Blogspot Blogger users are already reporting a drop in comments from non Blogger blogs, following the change in the comment form login process. I should imagine this is primarily from new visitors rather than those who visit and comment regularly, although some may be confused by the new comment login process and not bother. Those who do not allow anonymous comments may not realise they are cutting off all comments from non Blogger users. Blogger in Draft is now testing a new feature that allows readers to sign into comments with an OpenID. (I talked about OpenID in my last [...] Continue Reading…
