Ultimate Blog Party 2008
All women bloggers are invited to the 2008 Ultimate Blog Party. Sorry guys, you are not invited to participate, but you can of course read the resulting entries. All that is required is that you write one ‘party post’ during the week of March 7-14th. and leave a link in comments of the central Ultimate Blog Party Post on the 5 minutes for Mom site so that you can be added to the list of participants. Last year the Ultimate Blog Party had 1000 participating bloggers. More details and instructions can be found at Are You Coming to The Ultimate Blog Party 2008?

WomenBloggers Web Ring
- I have joined up with theWomenBloggers WebRing webring, which at present has 291 members, after being impressed by the quality of the member blogs that I read. The code is unobtrusive too - see my sidebar. Instead of the “go to next site” type of navigation that I am used to seeing for webrings, in this case member sites can be browsed within a frame on the WomenBloggers webring page. You can visit the actual sites from here too. You can find more details of the webring and how to go about joining at at the RingsAround.net WomenBloggers Webring page.

Melanie’s last blog post..Meme Monday
Very nice site with some useful information!
How can sk*rt not allow any men to join? Isn’t that discrimination based on gender? What if a site started that only allowed men to join - wouldn’t women see it as discrimination?
It’s ok for sites or anything else to focus on one demographic group, but once it starts to disallow anyone who is not part of that group to join, I believe that is discrimination.
Miriam Schwab’s last blog post..SphinnCon Israel review part 1: Barry Schwartz’s introduction
I am sure some women would and do object to men only groups and I do see your point although there are many online groups which focus on a demographic group and disallow others from joining. I have checked further and there seems to be nothing to stop men from joining sk*rt.
Especially since Web2.0 with its capabilities for interaction, the WWW has become much more than just a way of broadcasting information to the whole world. It allows for private groups and conversations. It allows those with mutual interests to get together and for friendships to form - an extension of real life which has it’s mum’s groups, nights out with ‘the boys’ nights out ‘with the girls’….
Such private groups give us the right and freedom to choose who we mix with, who we share the more intimate aspects of our life with? It tends to be the nature of online groups that there is an outward face where information is viewable by all and a behind the scenes where people can feel more comfortable to interact more privately. There is also the issue of feeling secure and free from the unwelcome sexual advances that often plague public online groups.
While looking for men only groups on the net I found a men only membership site with content that I found discriminatory and offensive to women. That I did find distasteful as I would if a women’s only site was the same.
Hi Sueblimely,
I have Scottish blood and I have a plaid Scottish skirt (Kilt), does that qualify?
–Durano, done!

Not sure you would be invited to join the ‘girls night’ out but there seems nothing to preclude men from joining sk*rt. Nothing in the membership form requires you to confirm you are female or a kilt wearing Scot.
Wanted to come by and congratulate you on the Significant Blogger award from Laketrees! You have a very intriguing blog.
