Congratulations to Jon Pfeffer and his father Steve on the completion of their mammoth bike ride, starting in Brisbane 4th May and finishing today in Broome. The Journey from east to west Coast Australia was over 5,000km so this is no mean achievement! Training and planning the event began back in October 2006. Jon’s stepbrother-in-law, Nick, joined them for the first 1,000km of the journey.
Steve and Jon have been riding to raise awareness for BeyondBlue and and awareness and funds for Plan Australia, which respectively work to fight depression and child poverty. They have been blogging about their preparation and journey on their Brisbane to Broome Charity Bike Ride site.
Romance was in the outback air when Jon proposed to his girlfriend Emelie, when he met her at Mt Isa airport on 30th May. The sign on the ground says “Will you marry me?”. Many congratulations Emelie and Jon.

Are you going to cycle up to see your daughter? You could get set up with solar power, a laptop and an internet connection, get a tan, get fit and blog all the way there.
He he - me on a bike, now that would be a site to behold. With the wobbles I would double the distance travelled. I agree that internet capabilities would be vital for any travelling I do though - I would pine away otherwise.
Daughter is on the move again soon to her next assignment - I think she has got herself well known in Broome though - bicycling to work etc with dog following along.
This is awesome! As a cyclist myself, I love seeing others ride for great causes. Congrats to Jon and Steve!

I have been reading a few other blogs lately where Australians are undertaking amazing bike rides in various places around the world.
Thanks for blogging about this mum. The people I live with met these guys while camping in the Kimberley and invited them to stay - they are camping in our backyard!
We thought they’d be exhausted and just want a shower and sleep when they arrived, but they graciously cooked us dinner!

Its probably the first time they have been able to cook on normal kitchen appliances - maybe they missed it. Or where they desperate for some food they had been missing during their trip?
There’s an idea for your next move - get a tent and camp in a friend’s backyard!

Thats pretty cool. I wonder what the heat got up to… I hope they had alot of water.
That must have been a long tiring journey. Two and a half months is a long time on the road. Kudos to them for riding for such noble causes.

My friend cycles 50 miles a day and says its no problem what so ever. Must have been real hot in aussie land though.
