If you use other people's content or ideas then you must give them credit. It is just wrong not to do so from an ethical and legal standpoint as well as courtesy.

If you are researching a topic thoroughly then there will be more links, otherwise you are likely just rehashing what someone else said.

Linking for gaining readers and contacts is also valuable....

I am going to follow this up in a post or this could end up being the longest post in history.

Thank you for your input and you can be assured that I will thank you with a link too.

the concern has crossed my mind too of making people run away from your blog, but in the end, I have to give credit to people whose article might enhance my research or what I am talking about! Besides I agree with sam that they might leave your site to read what the other article is about but will return to you to see your take on it!

Stealing content without the courtesy of a backlink is just about the worst thing you can do in the world of blogging. We all write pages, borrow ideas, but if we are going to beat the big shots up there on that google platform in the sky we have to support one another. www.monetizationweekly.com is one spot that I borrow content from all the time. So I'll drop there address off here. Hat's off to monetization thank you for the content!

Good on you for giving recognition to those that comment, goldcoaster. As classic blogger does not allow for nofollow to be removed from comments, I manually do a 'latest comments by' section at the bottom of my post page and thank you posts.

One downside of having too many links in some posts is that it could indicate you have not done enough research yourself and are relying on what others have done.

Another idea is to put links at the end of your post rather than sprinkled around on the basis that your readers will linger until they have read your whole post.

It is not always possible to do that though without removing them from their proper context.

I wish people would forget about not trying to link outside. Isn't that what the web is all about. I am betting they want link to them but won't return the favour, which in my mind, worse. I link and even give a link to people that comment on the next post I do as a thank-you.

I have reviewed and thumbs up this post on StumbleUpon. Good stuff.

Of course linking to your sources is the right thing to do!

Besides, there's a good chance you'll get a visit or two from the people you've linked to, and, looking at my meager stats, people don't always click on those outbound links, anyway.

But in the age of tabbed browsing, even when they do, they don't have to leave your site.
