I have been considering setting up blogs for a couple of friends as a Christmas gift; offering them ongoing support to help them learn and get their blogs off the ground. If I had the time there are quite a few other friends and family members who I feel would benefit from blogging for various reasons. Some have already shown interest but do not have the time or quite enough motivation to take the plunge. Having a blog set up for them, even if only for practice purposes to begin with, would give them the start they need to at least give it a go.

Being passionate about blogging and all the benefits it can offer I am always keen to introduce others to it. I am not sure I am a good salesperson though and could do with some ideas of how to convince others blogging would be of benefit to them.
I would appreciate some help here. Have any of you introduced friends and family to blogging and how did you achieve this? You could even point me in the direction of posts on the subject too.

Do you talk about your blog with your friends? I’m amazed at how many people have still never heard of a blog (okay, I was 1 of them just over 12 months ago
). I’ll mention something I read in a blog or something I wrote in my blog and it gets people asking questions about it. For a while I was a bit reluctant as I wasn’t sure I wanted people I knew face to face to know as much about me as my blog readers do. But I’m improving in that respect.
I think it’s a great idea for a Christmas gift though and I would just go ahead and do it and let them have a play around with what you’ve done. I was blogging intermittently for about 6 months before I really started to blog regularly. It wasn’t until I started to write more often that I really started to fall in love with blogging. BUT, even if they give it a go and feel that it’s not for them, you’ve still exposed them to a different experience in life - a great way to enrich their lives and therefore a wonderful gift no matter how it ends up.
Just my 2c worth on the topic.

You are right, at least it lets them have a go to see if it suits them. No harm done if it doesn’t and maybe a good deal of good if it does.
No one has really shown a lot of interest when I have talked about blogging and I suppose that, because I write for those who are already blogging, it is not of interest or makes no sense to those who don’t.
I have been giving domains, blogs, websites as gifts for years. Sometimes the keep it going, other really get into it. I have converted quite a few friends (maybe they just did it to stop the nagging LOL)

Sue I gave my Mum a blogspot blog as a partial Christmas Present last year. I also promised her the time to help her to understand what blogging is and how it all works. She has loved it because it has given her an alternative way to reach others. Here’s the Christmas post I did for her: http://spasmodicdysphonia.blogspot.com/2006/12/merry-christmas-mum.html
My husband bought me a domain name for Christmas last year - we were discussing a fund raiser for child sexual abuse and he just loved the name I attached to the idea - Purse for a Curse. It was a Christmas gift that meant a lot to me and I really appreciated it.

blogging is all about passion, we can’t teach someone to be a good blogger. Everyone must be have their own style
