Get More Comments with KeywordLuv

A new Wordpress plugin has to be unique and useful for me to write about it. The KeywordLuv plugin by Stephen Cronin of More than Scratch the Surface is just that. It is one of those “I know I have too many plugins, but I must have this one” plugin.

What KeywordLuv does is allow for the inclusion of a name and keywords in the title field in the comments form. I see this as being useful to include your blog title alongside your name. Those who are familiar with your blog title but not your nickname can associate the two or vice versa. For those who do not know you at all your blog’s title may be an added incentive for them to visit you. The plugin has the potential to encourage more comments too.

Your keywords do not have to be your blog title and can be blog topic keywords; but care must be taken that you do not come across as being spammy. Where I can see the plugin useful is where there is something for which you want to become known for. An example that springs to mind here is Kim from Laketrees who could publicize her Top 101 Top Artists’ Blogs list, as this list is of benefit to other bloggers. I would not consider this spammy.

What do you think would constitute spam in a KeywordLuv name?

I have installed the plug myself. Please feel free to give it a try (even if you haven’t must to say).

To use:

In the name field of the comment form add your name in this format: name@yourkeywordtext

Example:
Typing in “Stephen@More than Scratch the Surface” (without the inverted commas) will appear as:
Stephen of More than Scratch the Surface

- although I do not see why you would want to use any one else’s name :-)

just to clarify for a dummy like me - so it means the people who comment get the their name / blog name but not actual linky luv …awareness ?

I read on some ‘big’ Australian blogger’s site - but can’t remember who - they said about putting a link to your blog in the comments your leave. I wasn’t sure if this was spamming or not?

It said it was a way to generate traffic . I do it sometimes mainly because blogger takes you to the profile page not the website directly.

As well memes that span a few days /time differences around world mean commenters have to scroll to find the relevant so I save this hassle

What is the difference between Commentluv and keywordluv ?

Hi Trish
If you look above your comment you will see that your name and blog title are listed rather than just your name. You still get the link love as the blog title is linked to your blog.

When blogspot first changed its comment form and there was no option to put in a nickname and blog url I too suggested you put your link in the comments. This is not necessary any more as you can enter your nickname and blog address again.

CommentLuv is the plugin that adds and links to your last blog post title - as shown at the end of your comments here.

Okay, I’ll take the offer and give it a try. I think for me my name is kind of my brand so maybe it’s not as useful???

It will be interesting to see if it encourages comment spamming or whether genuine comments get passed over as being “spam”. Such a fine line.

I think it’s the same with putting a link in a comment. I never know whether it will make the blogger think I only have the one motive for commenting (which isn’t the case). :???:

Yes Lightening, your name is part of your brand so maybe it is not so useful for you. Mine is too but this gives me the chance to use Sue rather than Sueblimely as Sueblimely is mentioned in the blog title.

Hi Sue, I’ve been using KeywordLuv almost since it was first published. What I’ve found is that I need to move the instructions up before the comments because people aren’t paying attention to it.

This is indeed a great plugin. I also use it at my site to give people that comment something back.
I just love it :-)

I have this plugin on my Redneck Bar & Grill site. Some people have a lot of fun with it, and others use it for a good backlink.

I love this plugin. I thought commentluv was great when it came out, but this takes the cake. We have been seeing more and more bloggers flock to these plugins to generate comments on their sites as it promotes a win/win atmosphere within the community. Nice Post.

The keywordLuv plugin is great, I am a huge fan. I have found that it generates a lot of comments. It also makes leaving a comment like this, where I want to promote one of my sites feel a lot more honest. Cheers for using it.
