Announcing Divi Extra as my new theme

New Divi Extra Theme

After much thought I decided on the Divi Extra for my new theme. I couldn’t resist the flexibility and huge amount of customization options. They surpass any theme I’ve tried.

If you look at the demo you’ll see my site is far different from the demo, but most of this is because of the inbuilt options. I’m still tweaking it a little but it’s more or less done. If the site is slow to load please bear with me as I turn off the cache program while working on it.

I’ll soon start working on the test site I set up to change it into a Divi and Divi Extra tutorial site.

Advantages of Divi Extra

I’m already a lifetime developer member of Elegant Themes because I use some on other sites. So it cost me nothing for the theme and plugins. (I include the choice of this theme and many others for free when you order a WordPress site from me.). Standard subscription to Elegant Themes gives you access to all 87 themes and all their plugins for use on multiple sites.

Advanced Page Builder

I’ve tried various page builders and none offer nearly as many customization features.

Multiple layout options

As you can see if you check through my topics and pages in the top menu, there are so many easy to build drag and drop layout options. If you want to use a layout more than once all you do is save it to your library and load it up again the next time. You can also choose from the range of done for you layouts. These are particularly good when you are starting out as you can choose the elements and then save your changes to your custom layouts.

Here are the inbuilt layouts (some sites offer additional layouts to import):

Divi Extra Extras

  • Divi Extra includes all the features of the original Divi theme plus more. You can create a full magazine type layout or pick and choose which bits you want. If you wish you can change the look of a category page or stick to the default. I took advantage of this but may have gone overboard with the different layout and design options. They were hard to resist.
  • E-commerce ready – Extra is built with styling to fit in with WooCommerce integration.
  • An optional star rating review system.

Landing Pages

There is no need for landing/splash page plugins or accounts with third-party providers because with Divi you can create them easily. Either start from scratch or choose from one of the inbuilt layouts.

As well as an extensive Elegant Themes support forum, individual support is available. There’s even a plugin you can install when you want an Elegant Themes admin to look at your site to solve problems.

With security an increasing concern, it’s good to know that the theme is quickly updated as needed.

Divi and Divi Extra are fast becoming two of the most popular themes around. There are now dedicated sites offering tips, tweaks, child themes, showcases and extra plugins.

Divi Extra meets all my needs for now and in the future and matches what I recommended in my Are You Having Trouble Deciding on a New WordPress Theme. My next step is to redesign my Resources Site to match. That site already uses Divi.

If all the options seem a little overwhelming, don’t worry because you only need to use them when you are ready. If you don’t use the Divi builder option (which appears on each page and post) then Divi Extra acts just like any theme. Just install and off you go.

Here is where you can find the theme on Elegant themes:

The homepage on the demo site is a full magazine layout but here is the blog grid layout example. My homepage combines elements of both.

Divi Extra is one of the themes I include for free in my WordPress Packages. If it’s just installation you need then it will work out cheaper if I install it for you because there’s no ongoing yearly cost.

Can you see the advantages in using a customisable theme like this?
