Motivation for blogging has been lacking today and I have just realized why. My daughter has been visiting from Perth, along with a Canadian friend of hers who is doing a long world tour. It was the first time I have seen my daughter since she was transferred with her job to WA 3 months ago and her week long visit was wonderful. Now that she has gone back I am feeling flat. I am relieved now I have come to this realization, I have not gone off blogging after all

I have been catching up on some pingbacks and which has cheered me up no end.

I have gained so much more knowledge of blogging than I could possibly have learned just by researching the subject. This is all due to the help, support and encouragement I have received from other bloggers. I have therefore created the ‘Blogging Mentor Award‘ to recognize and thank those who help us on our path to blogging, be it encouraging and helping us to start blogging or helping us to be the best we can, once we have started.

Unlike most awards, it is not necessary to have received it yourself to be able to pass it on to others. It is free for anyone to use; anyone who wishes to say thank you to their own blog mentors. All that I ask is that you include a mention and link to my Blog Mentor Page. This way I can compile lists of those who have been generous enough to give the award and those who have received it, giving them recognition myself by some backlinks

What prompted me to create the award was reading that January is National Mentoring Month.in the USA. This is an initiative spearheaded by the Harvard Mentoring Project of the Harvard School of Public Health, with the aim of recruiting volunteer mentors to help young people achieve their full potential. The US ‘Thank Your Mentor Day™’ is dedicated to thanking or honoring individuals who have guided us and had a lasting impact on our lives.

Although the Blogging Mentor award is not restricted for use in January’s Mentoring Month, ‘Thank your Mentor Day‘ may be a particularly good time to use it. The date for 2008 is 24th January.

There are so many ways I have been helped - people have offered advice and guidance, taught me how to do all sorts of blogging things, provided very welcome comments, replied to my comments on their blogs.

I would like to thank the following kind hearted people who have offered me help, support, praise and encouragement in my blogging venture. Thank you too for making me feel part of the blogging world, which was so important to me especially when I first started out. My experience has shown me that bloggers are in general a very helpful bunch, which is one of the main reasons I keep on blogging. I like to help others where I can too, which is not as altruistic as it sounds because I gain pleasure from doing so.

Although, a courteous thank you is enough in appreciation for something I have done, recognition with an award is extra special, not only because someone has thought of me but a linkback is always appreciated Just being honest here, bloggers do tend to like linkbacks after all.

Without further ado, I want to thank Sandy of Writing in Faith for this award. Sandy, any help I have given is no where near the amount of pleasure you have given me through your blogs and the videos you so generously share with the world via YouTube .(P.S. I have ordered one of your books and am eagerly looking forward to receiving it in the mail).

I would like to pass this award on to Kim of Laketrees for her list of the Top 101 Artists Blogs. I for one am grateful to her for taking the time to put this together and allowing us to find the blogs of such a good range of creative people.

I also pass this on to a group of buddies that I have been spending a lot of online time with lately; some I already knew, others I have just met. Thanks to EVERYONE at the Australian Bloggers Forum   for your part in creating such a welcoming and friendly place for bloggers as well as providing very valuable help and blogging information.  (The forums, although run by Aussies, are open to anyone to join)

I am an SOB. I never thought I would call myself this - until I came across Liz Strauss’s Successful and Outstanding Blogger Hall of Fame . When I started blogging and saw the SOB badge on various blogs I aspired to be part of this community myself - so I cannot help but feel really pleased that I have been recognized this way. This is one of the occassions when I fully appreciate how worthwhile blogging is; giving me the motivation to continue trying my best. I think I will continue blogging for a while longer

Thank you Liz, for this honor as well as for the inspiration you give me through your own blogging.
