350 Ways To Save This Planet

There is evidence that suggests unless the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is reduced to below 350 parts per million, major our earth will suffer from irreversible damage. The vision of the 350.org movement is to create a global clean energy economy that is also strong enough to relieve world poverty. To do this they are endeavoring to get millions of people supporting the cause united in a “common call to action”

Blogger’s have a voice can use it to spread the word. Brighter Planet recently put out a challenge. Their aim was to get 350 bloggers displaying the 350 badge on their sites and in return they offered to offset 350 pounds of carbon in the participants names! They have achieved their goal but are carrying on with their campaign.

They liken the offset of 350 pounds of carbon to flicking off 100 lightbulbs for a day or going two weeks without your car. So let us together try to turn off thousands of lightbulbs and display the 350 badge on our sites and add our voices to the growing noise 350.org is making.

I think over the next few years things will be changing for the better, and surprisingly, businesses are leading the way of change, of the new “going green” aspect.

Thanks for pointing this out. It looks like a great cause to support. I particularly like the badge they created: the patch-look is a nice change from the typical web 2.0 glassy design.

Carbon reduction and environmental friendly behaviour is important in the modern world. However, as you mentioned, there has to be a global agreement to reduce pollution without finger pointing. Of course, countries and regions that are heavy in industry are going to have a lot of emissions but that does not make them the bad apples. If you had no industry and went back to the stone age, there would be no carbon. But then there would be no internet either. ( The manufacture of chips involves sophisticated vapor deposition techniques ). Hence working together, we can solve and reduce the emissions. We need to eliminate the politics and get to work. Great post. Thank you.

A good idea. Together we’ll make progress. The planet needs the community, as one by one we are weak and undetermined.

Everyone on the planet needs to do their part to help reduce our carbon footprint. There all all small things we can change in our daily routine that can add up to a big change very quickly. It is up to each and every one of us.

What a cool website! We definitely need to save the planet, without a clean and healthy planet, it will hurt us humans in the long run and we just can’t have that! =(

There are lots of ways to help. Everyone must play a part but you have to think creatively. It’s not just the big corporates, but small business too. I run a wedding photography business and re-use any packaging I get from photography purchases, such as lenses and cameras, to package the products I send to my clients. It may look a bit odd when they receive a wedding photograph album wrapped in a £2000 camera lens box, but I explain first and all my brides appreciate the effort. I also refuse to use albums from places like Australia and New Zealand – even though they’re beautiful wedding albums due to the large amount of carbon used in getting them all the way to my wedding phottography studio in Gloucestershire in the UK!
