Altruistic Link Love – Six Degrees

You’ve probably heard of the Six Degrees concept. Any one person (including me, Kevin Bacon) is connected to any other person through six or fewer relationships, because it’s a small world. is about using this idea to accomplish something good. It’s social networking with a social conscience. Through this web site, you can learn about and support the charities of celebrities and your friends, as well as fundraise for the causes close to your heart. I received this email today from Kevin Bacon (Ok it was a mass mail out to all members of 6 degrees but I thought it may catch your attention.) Hi Sueblimely, I’m Kevin Bacon and I’d like to introduce you to Six Degrees, a program which makes it easy for you to raise awareness and support for a charity that’s important to you. It is my hope that Six Degrees will soon be a force for good, by bringing a social conscience to social networking. I’d love you to be part of this important effort. Since its launch in late January, we’ve raised over $325,000. If you haven’t participated already, I’d love you to be part of this important effort. If you have participated, I’d like to thank you for helping us get off to such a great start. You may recognize some of my friends who have already joined me: Kyra Sedgwick,...

Add eBay ads to your blog using AuctionAds

I have avoided putting examples of ads on my blog so far as there are plenty of sites that talk about monetizing your blog. Being a real fan of eBay (I love any chance of a bargain) I am making an exception. AuctionAds provide a way of tapping into the eBay affiliate program – by displaying eBay ads on your web site. You earn commission when links clicked from your site result in a Winning Bid, a Buy-it-Now purchase or a confirmed user registration. Ads are customized to your site content and are country specific – e.g. ads on my site will be from eBay Australia. AuctionAds Reached 5,000 Publishers within the first week of launching. You can read more about it on the AuctionAds Blog. To get an AuctionAds account? – Sign Up Here! Filed in: Monetize, Blog Ads,...

Google AJAX Search Tools

Google has recently introduced some clever search tools that you can use on your blogs. All of these searches can be customised to your own choice of subjects. I have created separate pages to show you examples of this coding in action: There you will find links to the google wizard pages that will help you create these. Google Blog Bar Vertical and Horizontal lets you embed a dynamic Google Blog bar in your web pages. Google Book Bar Vertical and Horizontal – books are shown with their images based on the search criteria you chose. News Bar Vertical and Horizontal – Add a dynamic news bar to your page showing the kind of news you choose.. Google Video Bar Vertical and Horizontal – displays a horizontal or vertical bar of images of the category you chose when setting up the coding via the wizard. GoogleSearch – embed a simple, dynamic search box and display search results in your own web pages Google Map Search – a small Google Map image is portrayed zoomed into the place of your choice. The map is navigable, with scrolling functions. Google Video Search – add a video search form and a block of videos to your pages. Filed in: Google, Blog-tools...

Impressive effects with Ajax Labels for Blogger

There are a few reasons why I am impressed by this ‘peek-a-boo’ style labeling display method. Firstly because of the idea and skill of the person who made it – Deepak of Blogger Hacked – and secondly because I managed to install it myself!! His instructions were very clear so the latter is not a marvellous feat. As I have not yet transferred this template over to the new Blogger code I have installed this feature on my Sueblimely Practicing the New Blogger blog at Getting Labeled with Ajax/Prototype On the ‘Practicing’ blog I am slowly (because I get sidetracked by such things as installing Ajax Labels) analyzing and trying to simply display the new features of the new Blogger; explaining them as I go. Take a look for yourself and follow the links to the original page on Blogger Hacking. Filed in: blog tools,Labels,...

A Challenge to Bloggers – A New Kind of Link Love

I have some favorite causes/charities that I like to support. It occurred to me that it may be worthwhile giving some free advertising to them on this blog. It is so easy to do and potentially very worthwhile. I challenge other blogs, whose primary aim is not fundraising, to do the same. I will publish links to the first 20 blogs that contact me (via comments here) who show their altruism by creating an image link(s) on their blogs to their favorite cause or causes. I have started the ball rolling here by adding a linked image to a major fundraising drive by the FRAXA Research Foundation who, if they can raise $500,000 in new donations by the end of October, will have another $500,000 donated by Doris Buffett’s Sunshine Lady Foundation. FRAXA‘s mission is to accelerate progress toward effective treatments and ultimately a cure for Fragile X, by directly funding the most promising research. FRAXA also supports families affected by Fragile X and raises awareness of this important but virtually unknown disease. Fragile X is the most common known inherited disability, affecting male and female, and the most common known cause of autism. It is caused by a ‘fault’ on the X chromosome, hence the name FRAXA has contributed an untold amount of effort and millions of dollars towards fulfilling its goal. A great milestone has recently been...
